CBD Oil for Pets

Cannabidiol or CBD Oil – What is it?

cannabidiol

Cannabis is usually a taboo topic, but it doesn’t have to be any longer – it’s now become something that’s beneficial to dog therapy.  Often referred to as CBD Oil, Cannabidiol (CBD) is derived from hemp and is one of the main types of cannabinoids found in the plant Cannabis Sativa, yes, that’s correct, Cannabis. But don’t worry, it’s not the same type of Cannabis that people used to get high.  That type of Cannabis includes the other type of cannabinoids – Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is what makes people feel high. The therapeutic Cannabis found in CBD oil only has trace amounts of THC, 0.3% or less compared to marijuana’s THC level of 10-15%, meaning CBD hemp has no intoxicating effect on dogs or humans alike.

CBD hemp has hit the dog scene recently because of its therapeutic qualities, and has been proven to help dogs with chronic conditions, stress/anxiety, aggressive behavior, digestion issues and more. CBD hemp is not only an anti-inflammatory, but it’s a healthy and non-toxic way to support the endocannabinoid system (located in the brain) for optimal health and wellness.

CBD is Mutt-tested and approved – we’ve had dogs ranging from puppies to seniors try CBD and have a positive experience. Our 13 year old lab Wilson was suffering from arthritis and had a growing tumor in his mouth. We tried testing several different pharmaceuticals options, but they made Wilson restless, uncomfortable and unable to sleep at night. So we decided to try CBD. The CBD Oil not only helped him relax and sleep, but we believe that the CBD prolonged his life. We could see an improvement within 24 hours and by the 3rd night, Wilson was sleeping through the night again.

We have also tested CBD Oil with our 7yr old Lab, Tonka and our 11 yr old Airedale, Teddy. Both of these boys have anxiety when we leave the house and have been known to destroy a trash can or two, which could be dangerous if they get into the wrong thing. When given a CBD Oil treat, both Tonka and Teddy seem to settle down quickly, do not get into trouble, and are much happier when we arrive back at home.

Whether your dog is stressed out over fireworks on the fourth of July, is in pain from a tumor, or just needs to calm down, CBD can help. One question we’ve been asked is if your dog can overdose or get high off of CBD. The answer is NO. Since CBD hemp has a THC level of 0.3% or less, your dog cannot overdose or get high but we recommend using the suggested serving provided. You can find CBD in dog treats for both small and large dogs and oil for both small and large dogs.
