Most dogs have never seen a pet carrier before so you need to give them time to adjust. Do not put him in the carrier and then expect him to stay there for 4 hours on the first day. Instead, put the carrier out when you are at home so your dog can explore it. Hid treats in the carrier and put him in there before he gets a new toy or bone. You can also set him in his carrier when you are petting him. This will help him learn that the pet carrier is a great place to be because all of this fun stuff happens when he is in it.
